Bicycle Charlie Memorial Bike Ride - paper sales go toward Charlie's Memorial Fund!!

April 08, 2021

The GIA Foundation is sponsoring a Memorial Bike Ride for Charlie Wallace, Brinkley's long-time newspaper delivery man. Some of the riders will have his special Tribute edition of the Monroe County Herald for sale. Papers will also be at all of the stations set up along the bike route. Papers will be sold prior to the bike ride by members of the GIA Foundation and its Youth Empowerment Group. Proceeds from these paper sales and the ads in this issue will be deposited in the "Bicycle Charlie" Wallace Memorial Fund. We have lots of extra copies of this edition and the price is only $1 per copy. Of course, you're welcome to contribute whatever amount you choose. We will be sure it goes toward the Memorial Fund.

This fundraiser is intended to place a memorial to Bicycle Charlie somewhere downtown – the current vision is a statue of Charlie's bicycle with its basket and pictures of Charlie along with his story on the base of the monument. We can’t think of a more fitting way to honor his memory but we need your help! All donations are gratefully appreciated!

For more information, contact Nekita Crawford at the GIA Foundation at 901-430-6597. You can pick up copies of the Herald at our office in the Cottagemall & Cafe, 322 West Cypress, in Brinkley. There are accounts set up for the Charlie Wallace Memorial Fund at all three banks in Brinkley. Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund can deposit money in those accounts or drop it off at the Herald office. Checks should be payable to either Monroe County Herald or "Bicycle Charlie" Wallace Memorial Fund.
