Douglas Cotter, July 28, 1951 – February 7, 2022

Douglas Cotter of Wheatley passed away at age 70. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, the third child of Don and Mildred Cotter. He received education at Whetstone High School in Columbus.

During childhood, Doug attended worship at the Church of Christ. Through baptism, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He recently attended worship at the Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Doug enlisted with the Army on January 4, 1971, and began training as an Armorer Supply Specialist. He received the sharpshooter badge w/rifle bar (M-16), expert badge w/rifle bar (M-14), and grenade bar. Released from active duty, Doug continued service in the Army Reserve receiving an honorable discharge in 1976.

He loved working on cars and at age twelve he began helping at his dad's shop. Around the age of 20, he began working with various dealerships. He enjoyed drag racing, entering many competitions in National Trails, Richwood Race Tracks in Ohio, and Russellville at Centerville Drag Way. The last 14 years Doug worked as owner/operator of Doug's Performance Shop in Wheatley. Doug was also the local handyman working on lawnmowers, ceiling fans, decks, and plumbing for family and friends. Having quite the record collection, some of his all-time favorites were Bob Seger and Elvis. On a little softer side, Doug was an avid lover of cats and always had a cat around his home. Unable to swim, Doug enjoyed having the opportunity to take adult swimming lessons.

In 2004, he met Marie Morian. They made their home in Wheatley and have been blessed to share in the many joys and memories made through the years.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Mildred Cotter; and brother Don Cotter. Survivors are his companion of 18 years, Marie Morian; sons, Don Cotter and Misti Crane, of Columbus, Ohio, and Robb Cotter (Aubrey), of Marysville, Ohio; step-daughter, Kim Embrey (John), of Greenwood; grandchildren, Kailee, Marissa, and Nila Cotter, and Noah, Sarah, and Jonah Embrey; brothers, Jim Cotter, of Columbus, and Dave Cotter (Kay), of Delaware, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cotter, of Columbus, Ohio.

Graveside services were Friday, February 11, at Posey Cemetery in Wheatley. Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home provided the arrangements.
