Dorothy Imogene Vanderburg, 83, passed away in Little Rock. A daughter of Leroy and Dorothy Hunt Ousley, she was born in Hunter. She and Donald Vanderburg were married June 27, 1955 and enjoyed 50 years of life together before his passing on April 20, 2006. Imogene was a selfless person and dedicated her life to family. She felt God blessed her with two very special children with disabilities and in her eyes both were perfect and possessed more abilities than disabilities.

With raising a deaf daughter, she never wavered and taught Devonna to talk so she could fit into the hearing world. When her son, Darrell was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, she never missed a beat and took care of him until her own body and mind could do no more. She never let her children feel sorry for themselves and would not tolerate self-pity.

In quiet times she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and needle work. Imogene and Darrell traveled many miles to research family genealogy, which resulted in publishing a book, “The Hunts of Hunter, Arkansas”. She was a member of First Baptist Little Rock, faithful in reading her Bible and received great joy when her children accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her: parents, husband, and son, Darrell Kent Vanderburg.

Imogene is survived by her daughter, Devonna Vanderburg and husband, James G. “Cully” Culpepper III of Maumelle.

Funeral services were November 2 at First Baptist Little Rock with burial in Riverwood Memorial Gardens at Maumelle by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home in Brinkley.
